From Diagnosis: Taking the next step - Your cancer care plan

Following your diagnosis and recommendation for chemotherapy, it is important that you understand what is involved as part of your cancer care plan.

Our objective is to prepare the next steps in your cancer care plan and provide you with information and support during your treatment.

Appointments / Chemotherapy and you:

Step 1 - Complete an Online Admission Form

Step 2 - Book an Appointment for a Pre-admission Patient Education Session

Once we receive your online admission form and the referral letter from your oncologist, we will contact you to confirm your Pre-admission Patient Education Session appointment.

We aim to improve your knowledge of chemotherapy, the potential side effects and reduce possible anxiety about your treatment. We believe that by being prepared and understanding your chemotherapy will help reduce some of the stress surrounding your treatment.

Our nursing staff will provide patient education prior to commencement of your treatment.

During the Pre-admission Patient Education Session you will also have the opportunity to discuss your cancer care plan and have your questions addressed.

During this session, we will:

  • Discuss how chemotherapy is administered, how long it will take and how often it will be administered
  • Discuss the potential side effects of chemotherapy treatment and how to manage, minimise or prevent them
  • Make an appointment for your first cycle of chemotherapy treatment
  • Discuss the services available at Western Sydney Private Oncology and Infusion Centre to support you and your family during this period.

By the end of the session, we hope you will have greater understanding of your chemotherapy treatment, how to manage the potential side effects and be more familiar with Western Sydney Private Oncology and Infusion Centre’s facilities.
